Credit for Military Service (HB 269)

House Bill 269 makes military veterans who enroll at Texas Southern University and meet certain requirements eligible to receive undergraduate credit for military service.

Note: Credit awarded under HB 269 is awarded for military service and is separate from military transfer credit awarded for military training, occupations, and coursework completed while serving. There is a separate process for evaluating military coursework and training.

Eligibility Requirements

Students may be eligible for Military Service Credit if they:

  • Graduated from a public or private high school accredited by a generally recognized accrediting organization or from a high school operated by the U.S. Department of Defense.
  • Completed at least two years of service in the U.S. Armed Forces or were discharged because of a disability.
  • Received an Honorable Discharge.

Accepting Credit

Not all degree programs have general elective coursework available within the degree plan. Students should consult with their academic advisor and their college to determine the number of credits that can be applied toward their degree requirements before requesting Military Service Credit. TSU will not accept HB 269 credit that has been granted by another institution.
